Our Story

EAT. DRINK. SHOP.
Thanks for visiting! My name is Nicole Keats and up until 2019 I owned two businesses, Bistro On Roe and The Newfoundland Tea Company. I love what I do for a living but I found I was spending way too much of my time on not so fun stuff like office work and red tape which left me next to no time to devote any time to growing my businesses. In January of 2019, I merged the two businesses into one and re-branded Bistro on Roe to The Newfoundland Tea Company.
The bistro has been in business since 2006 and is known for offering fresh upmarket meals done right. We love our customers; many of whom we've been feeding for 13 years. Not much has changed except our name and we still cater to people looking for freshly prepared meals made with quality ingredients that we work hard to source locally when we can.
The tea company is a little side business that I started in 2016 which grew into much bigger little side business. Right now you can find us in over 45 shops and restaurants which are listed below. I currently offer over 20 blends of organic teas in our new gift shop as well as a wonderful selection of handmade goods crafted by local artisans many of whom live and work right here in gander.
WHY ORGANIC TEA?
I stand behind my product 100% and here's why:
Tea pickers are generally the poorest of the poor in tea growing regions around the world. They work hard to cultivate and harvest the tea that we drink. Buying only organic means that they do not have to face the dangers of chemical farming in order to feed their families.
It's good for our earth. No harmful chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used. The soil is enriched with natural compost and mulch retains moisture while providing extra nutrients as it breaks down.
Organic tea is higher in antioxidants that provide many of the health benefits that tea is famous for.
Tea plants can live more than 100 years. Organic farming methods allow the plants to remain healthy for the duration of their lifespan. Which means less expense to the farmer as they do not have to replace the plants as often as they would with the use of chemicals that breakdown the plant or poison the earth that it's grown in.
Organic just tastes better! The way nature intended it to.
